National Forest Inventory Data to Evaluate Climate-Smart Forestry

چکیده
Abstract National Forest Inventory (NFI) data are the main source of information on forest resources at country and subcountry levels. This chapter explores strengths limitations NFI-derived indicators to assess development with respect adaptation mitigation climate change, that is, criteria Climate-Smart Forestry (CSF). We reflect harmonizing NFI-based across Europe, use literature scrutinize available evaluate CSF, apply them in 1) Switzerland, where CSF is evaluated for NFI records simulation model projections four management scenarios; 2) 43 selected European countries, which Sustainable Management (SFM) used. The were aggregated composite indices an overall rating. Swiss showed increased ratings mountainous regions, growing stocks increased. Simulations under business-as-usual led a positive rating, whereas scenarios harvesting decreased either only or both adaptation. European-level results increases most countries. Negative mostly due damages. discuss indicator approach, consider broader context international greenhouse gas reporting, conclude policy recommendations.

We present a collection of papers derived from the 2012 Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Symposium held on December 4-6, 2012 in Baltimore, MD, USA. The symposium featured 128 oral presentations with nearly 200 attendees from the United States and other countries. A proceedings from the symposium included 75 papers as well as abstracts for all presentations and posters. The symposium theme, ...
متن کاملForest inventory and analysis: a national inventory and monitoring program.
Forests provide significant commodity and noncommodity values to the citizens of the United States. An important and substantial role in ensuring the continued health, productivity, and sustainability of these resources is a reliable and credible inventory and monitoring program. The Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program of the US Forest Service has been monitoring and reporting on status...
متن کاملHow Can Forest Management Adapt to Climate Change? Possibilities in Different Forestry Systems
It is only relatively recently that national adaptation strategies have begun to develop measures by which forestry can adapt to climate change; often those measures opt to use a relatively general strategy for coping under conditions of disturbance. Particularly in states using intensive forest management, such as Sweden, this approach marks a departure from current strategies for achieving ma...
متن کاملRegression Analysis for Forest Inventory Data
In this paper the data of a forest health inventory are analysed. Since 1983 the degree of defoliation (damage), together with various explanatory variables (covariates) concerning stand, site, soil and weather, are recorded by the second of the two authors, in the forest district Rothenbuch (Spessart, Bavaria). The focus is on the space and time dependencies of the data. The mutual relationshi...
